Katie Liberman
Marine Science Educator, Summer Camp Director
Katie Liberman is a marine biologist with a background in finfish aquaculture research (but everyone who knows her knows that she’s the resident ‘shark lady’). She has an undergraduate and master’s degree in marine biology from the University of Maine and has lived the last 13 years in Maine. After spending almost a decade in academia, Katie pivoted to education and outreach through an Island Institute Fellowship on Deer Isle. She taught STEM, gardening, and cooking programs for youth in grades 3-12 at the Mariners Soar! After-school Program and ran summer camps.
Katie is a rescue scuba diver and expert sea glass hunter. While she learned to dive in Maine, she has dived around the world: from the kelp forests of California, the Caribbean coral reefs, to the bull shark conservation areas in Fiji. Katie embraces her inner Ms. Frizzle, pet chameleon and all. When she’s not writing fiction or poetry, Katie can be found foraging in the woods or out tending the garden. Her published writings are in the Midcoast Poetry Journal, Vol. 1, The Midcoast Villager, The Working Waterfront, Knee Brace Press, and elsewhere.
