Ava Travis
Marine Science Educator
Ava is one of our summer educators and aquarium caretakers for this summer. She is from New Jersey and came to Maine to study marine biology at Unity Environmental College 5 years ago. She is finishing her final semester soon with hopes of one day working with sharks, coral conservation, and educating the public about the world's oceans. Ava moved to Maine permanently 3 years ago. Her family will soon be moving up to their new farm in Freedom Maine. Currently she takes care of her family's farm and the animals that reside on the property. She is the proud owner of Noodle, a Kenyan Sand Boa, and her cat Juniper.
Ava is a skilled artisan practicing multiple crafts such as fiber arts, scrimshaw, painting, carving, dreamcatchers, and embroidery. She will be opening an Etsy shop one day soon to sell her art. Ava has a strong sense of humor and a passion for nature and showing others how special nature is. She loves to kayak, practice archery, and ride horses. On the weekends, you can find her volunteering at the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railway in Unity Maine. It is a small nonprofit railroad that makes scenic train rides through the countryside. Ava is currently training to be a conductor on this railroad.
