A watershed is defined by the space in which water “sheds” off the land into water basins like lakes, rivers, and finally into the ocean. Many things can affect the water quality in a watershed including all the poo left behind by our 4 legged friends.

12 Year Old Lobsterman
Meet Marina Landrith. The 12-year-old owns a 19-foot lobster boat and hauls her own lobster traps in Rockport, Maine. Marina attended Herring Gut’s Junior Marine Scientist Camp this past summer.

Join the Herring Gut Coastal Science Center team for a guided sunset cruise through Muscongus Bay on the Laura B. Snacks provided. Meet on the Monhegan Ferry dock in Port Clyde at 5:45pm.

Junior Marine Scientist Camp
This summer, Junior Marine Scientist Camper gained a unique perspective of the marine environment surrounding Midcoast Maine. They conducted field experiments, explore aquaculture and aquaponics, and learned about the marine animals and ecosystems that make Midcoast Maine unique.

An Evening of Celebration
On August 9th, Herring Gut Coastal Science Center filled the beautiful SaltWater Fields Event Barn to celebrate its new name, expanded programming, and a new collaboration with Colby College’s Island Campus on Allen Island.
