Summer 2022 - It’s A Wrap

Dear Friends of Herring Gut Coastal Science Center

The summer of 2022 saw an amazing season for Herring Gut.

June was highlighted with two fantastic Educator Professional Development trainings. We took all the 4th graders from St. George School to explore Colby College's Island Campus and we wrapped up a successful academic year of programming at St George and Thomaston Schools.

July got even busier with a twice-a-week Terrific Tidepooling Treks, Family Fun Days, Camps for Rockland schools, and the return of Herring Gut Summer Camps. Along with Allen Insurance Agency, we co-hosted the Pen Bay Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on our campus.

August rounded out the summer with a great evening celebration of the Herring Gut and Colby College Collaboration, more summer Herring Gut Summer camps, Terrific Tidepooling Treks, Family Fun Days, Open Houses, and another beautiful sunset cruise along the St. George River to end the season.

All told, we had over 3,000 visitors at our programs or stopping by for a visit amounting to over 6,400 program hours with our supporters through 124 program offerings. Whew!

The staff and volunteers of Herring Gut Coastal Science Center thank all of you for a fantastic summer!

Here are some tidbit facts:

  • nearly 700 walk-in visitors

  • 281 volunteer hours

  • almost 250 attended our Library Outreach Programs
