Our Experience Maine’s Marine Economy Program is a field-based and experiential excursion program that took students to some of the most innovative marine-based industry and research facilities in the midcoast region of Maine.
Junior Marine Scientist Camp
This summer, Junior Marine Scientist Camper gained a unique perspective of the marine environment surrounding Midcoast Maine. They conducted field experiments, explore aquaculture and aquaponics, and learned about the marine animals and ecosystems that make Midcoast Maine unique.
An Evening of Celebration
On August 9th, Herring Gut Coastal Science Center filled the beautiful SaltWater Fields Event Barn to celebrate its new name, expanded programming, and a new collaboration with Colby College’s Island Campus on Allen Island.
St. George Day Parade

24 Hours Wyeth’s World Educator Retreat
Teachers attended the 24 Hours in Wyeth's World Educator Retreat on Allen Island. Colby College Museum of Art organized this retreat in collaboration with Herring Gut Coastal Science Center.
Aquatots Kicks Off With a Splash!
Aquatots , our new summer preschool program, used pitchers and funnels to pour water into graduated cylinders. They chose their favorite number and either poured out water or added more to try to get an exact measurement. They even explored why an equal amount of water looks like different amounts in large and small containers.
Bucksport Middle School Educators Learn About Aquaponics
Bucksport educators are planning, prototyping and building a new aquaponics/makerspace/kitchen
