Herring Gut Coastal Science Center Recipient of Maine Business Recovery and Resilience Fund Grant

Our lobster pound took a catastrophic hit this January from the back-to-back storms. We have received a $100,000 grant from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development to repair the pound. This money is provided from the Maine Business Recovery and Resilience Fund Grant to businesses and nonprofit organizations impacted by the January 10, 2024 storm or the January 13, 2024 storm for recovery, rebuilding and investments in more resilient infrastructure. Fixing the pound allows us flexibility in using it to do a variety of research and education programming that requires an impounded area. It also aligns with Phyllis Wyeth’s vision and our responsibility to be good stewards of our working waterfront property. We anticipate adding interpretive signage to the pound area so that visitors learn more about our critical working waterfronts.
