Four months ago, the students in the Long Line Kelp Growers program placed their kelp farms in the lobster pound of the HGLC. At that time kelp seed, almost undistinguishable to the eye, was growing on thin nylon rope.
Taking advantage of a warm winter day, the students journeyed out onto the water to see how their farms are progressing.

After the kelp came ashore, it was inspected for the presence of biofouling organisms that could threaten the kelp's health and growth, then each piece was measured and recorded.

The students were so surprised and excited to see so much growth in such a short amount of time! Final harvesting will occur in May. We are looking forward to sharing with you what the final crop looks like!
