About Our School Year Workshops
Periodically, we offer extensions of our summer courses for past participants and their colleagues as well as modifications of our summer courses to fit school year schedules. We also work with educators and their institutions to create custom-designed workshops in project-based, integrated instruction utilizing our aquaponics facilities, wet lab, and waterfront properties.
The proximity of our campus to a working harbor, historic lighthouse, and tidal beach also provide us with ample opportunities and options for incorporating "the Maine coast" into our training programs.
In 2010 and 2011, teachers from RSU 13 spent four afternoons participating in a marine science workshop that included shoreline investigations and center-based hands-on sessions matched to their classroom curriculum or personal learning interests.
For the past several years, Herring Gut has teamed up with RSU#13 to offer aquaponics professional development courses for teachers. Teachers receive a classroom aquaponics kit and instruction for how to incorporate it into their classroom curriculum.
How did participants describe their workshop experience?
